Removing Plantar Warts While Pregnant

    • A plantar wart is a wart that is caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV). These warts are usually found on the toes or the sole of the foot. Treatment is important to shorten the life of the wart, prevent it from spreading to others, and to reduce the amount of discomfort associated with it. There are several methods that have been tried by individuals and physicians for the removal of plantar warts.

Removal of Plantar Warts by Acid

    • One of the more commonly used methods of removal for plantar warts is acid. A type of mild acid is used to burn the wart off and disintegrate the viral cells along with it. This allows the wart to fall off and allows healthy skin to grow in where it should. This is usually done over the course of a few weeks, and there are several types of acid used including salicylic acid, dichloroacetic, trichloroacetic and cantharidin.

Removal of Plantar Warts with Laser Treatment

    • Lasers are another commonly used method for the removal of plantar warts. This is often a bit more costly than other methods, but it is very clean and accurate. Lasers allow doctors to kill the virus that causes the plantar wart. Many sufferers of plantar warts stay away from this method of treatment as it is not 100 percent effective yet, and there are less costly methods of treatment that have better results.

Removal of Plantar Warts by Cryotherapy

    • Cryotherapy is one of the most time-tested methods of plantar wart removal. This is the process of freezing the wart and allowing it to fall off. Sodium nitride is often used for this purpose. The deeper the wart has run, the less effective this method of removal is as the cold may not be able to penetrate the wart far enough to completely kill the HPV virus.

Removal of Plantar Warts by Debridement

    • There is also a fairly non-invasive surgical method of removing plantar warts. Anesthetic and a scalpel are used to remove the mass from the foot, and treatment is then administered to kill the virus and prevent the wart from returning. This is not commonly used as of yet, and the success rate is not as high as other, more common methods of plantar wart removal.
