  1. A generator is a mechanism that is used to provide electricity. There are many different types of power generators including gas power generators, wind power generators, propane power generators, diesel power generators and bio-fuel power generators just to name a few. All of these use their respected source, such as gas, wind, propane, diesel or bio-fuel as the power to provide electricity to your home.
  2. Usually with your home appliances, you would plug in whatever appliance you are ready to use, turn it on and it will instantly start working. This is because the electric company is providing the electricity needed for your appliance to work.
  3. A home power generator works in this same manner, however it will act as the electrical company by providing the electricity to your home. A home power generator has a fan located in the inside that uses the source of energy to trigger a continuous flow of electricity. Let's say for instance you had a wind power generator. This type of power generator would use the wind to create electricity. The blades of the fan would turn as the wind forced them to. As the blades are turning, the shaft that connects the blades to an electric generator motor will begin to turn. This causes the power generator to work by producing electricity for your home.
