By folding, ironing and sewing a 20-inch-square bandana, you can create your own halter top. Begin by folding the bandana in half, making a triangle. To secure the fold, iron the crease. Next, fold the point of the triangle down about 4 inches, and iron the fold.
-
Sew a stitch 5/8 inch from each fold to make a casing for the string. To guarantee the seam is secured, use a backstitch on both ends of the stitching. You can make the two casings with a sewing machine or by hand with a needle and thread. You can also make the casings without any sewing by ironing heat-adhesive strips about 1 inch above both folds.
-
Gather two strings such as ribbons or shoelaces to pull through each casing. Attach a small safety pin to the end of a string and pull it through the bottom casing. Then, attach a safety pin to the other string and pull it through the top casing. Remove the safety pin, and your bandana halter top is ready to wear.
- When putting on a bandana halter top, place the top of the triangle near the neck and tie its string around your neck. Tie the longer, bottom of the shirt around your back. Because of a bandana's thin material and the shirt's backless appearance, you may have to be creative when selecting appropriate undergarments.
