Hanging Christmas Lights Indoors
-
Choose, Sort and Test Lights
-
Prior to hanging any Christmas lights, consider whether colored, multi-colored or white lights will be used. Test the lights before you hang them, to make sure they work.
Doorway /Breezeway
-
A doorway, breezeway or home entrance can be transformed into a welcoming arbor of lights entwined with garland or other greenery. Using a greenery of your choosing, begin at one end and weave lights in and around greenery. An additional strand of lights may be necessary. Lay the completed strand of greenery with lights on the floor and bring both ends together. The fold of greenery is the center. The center of the strand will go in the center of the doorway, breezeway, or entrance, with the remaining garland outlining the left and right sides of the entrance. Attach with small, sturdy hooks or push pins, lightly draping the garland of lights for a natural effect.

Fireplace
-
Christmas lights are a beautiful addition to any fireplace. Weave lights in and around a strand of garland. Lay the completed strand of greenery with added lights on the floor and bring both ends together. The fold of garland is the center and will be placed in the center of the fireplace mantle allowing the ends to cascade along the mantle and down the sides of the fireplace. Push pins may be required to anchor the lights and garland, especially if it hangs down across the front of the mantle.
Bathrooms
-
Mirrors are great for reflecting light. Christmas lights can be hung by tacking the center of the garland slightly above the top of the mirror, letting the ends follow the length of the mirror and down the sides.
Stairway / Banisters
-
Lights on stairways and banisters add a touch of romance to the holiday season. Weave lights in and around garland. Begin at the top of the stairs, making sure the electrical plug end of the lights is on the end of the garland strand for easy lighting. Garland and lights can be draped or wrapped around the banister leading down the stairs. If colored, or multi-colored lights are used, full white bows add to the decorative lights by attaching them every three or four feet along the banister. In the event white lights are used, a red, or other colored bow every three or four feet can provide the finishing touch.
Plants
-
Real or artificial plants are ideal to hang Christmas lights in. String them like you would a Christmas tree. White lights are often used in artificial and real plants year-round for decoration.

Holiday Decorating using window/doorway framers - Consider using window framers to avoid damage to the window or doorway frames and hazardous punctures to string light wires. The framers can be self made or purchased at reasonable cost (Frame Your Holiday). Using framers are not just for hanging lights. Garland and ornaments can be suspended from the framer as well. Use of framers gives a no muss no fuss approach and will enable that warmly decorated look desired to be attained.
