    Purpose

  1. Scrapbookers use eyelets for a variety of purposes. Eyelets are used to reinforce holes, add color, texture and layers, attach embellishments, or weave or thread ribbons through a page. They draw the eye to a special place on a layout and the visual effects they create appeals to scrapbook designers of all levels.
  2. Applying Eyelets

  3. Eyelets are inserted using a hammer, an anywhere hole punch, an eyelet setter and a cutting mat. Before inserting an eyelet onto a page, a hole must be created using an anywhere hole punch. With a paper placed on the mat on a flat surface, the hole punch is placed upright on the paper. The hammer is used to tap the top of the hole punch, creating the hole for the eyelet to be inserted. The eyelet is then inserted into the hole and the paper is turned over and the tip of the eyelet setter is placed on top of the eyelet. When tapped with a hammer, the eyelet setter causes the back of the eyelet to bend outward. The eyelet is then hammered directly, causing the eyelet ridge to flatten When the page is turned over, the eyelet is in place.
  4. Uses

  5. The possible uses for eyelets on scrapbook layouts are vast. They can be used to create eyes on animals or photos, the center of flowers, polka dots or other designs, or bugs. They can also be used to create letters or numbers, or to draw attention to one letter, such as the dot on a lower case "i." Other uses include attaching embellishments such as tags, flowers, buttons, ribbons or chipboard to a page or weaving string or ribbon through numerous eyelets to create borders, lines or frames. Eyelets can be used to create bullet points for journaling or to draw the eye to particular words. With a vast selection of eyelets available to purchase, they provide unlimited opportunities for creative scrapbook endeavors.
