Making Natural Shampoo

  1. Basic Shampoo

    • Basic shampoo is pretty simple: Mix ¼ cup of water, ¼ cup of liquid castille soap and ½ teaspoon of sunflower oil.

Shampoo for Specific Types of Hair

    • Adding ingredients to the basic shampoo mixture customizes it for particular types of hair. For example, for blond hair, add 2 tbsp. of lemon juice. For brown hair or red hair, add apple cider vinegar. For dry hair add ¼ cup of aloe vera. For oily hair, add rosemary leaves.

    Specific Scents

    • Shampoo can also be scented. For example, for shampoo with a chamomile scent, make chamomile tea, then add 4 tbsp. of soap flakes into the tea, then mix in 1½ tbsp. of glycerin.

    Soapless Shampoo

    • Combine brown sugar and conditioner to make a soapless shampoo. Mix one part brown sugar to three parts conditioner to make soapless shampoo.

    Dry Shampoo

    • Cornstarch can be used in place of liquid shampoo. Sprinkle ½ cup of cornstarch in your hair and leave it there for a couple of minutes, then brush out. This type of dry shampoo gets oil out of the hair.
