Starting Holiday Traditions

Importance of Traditions
-
Everyone has grown up with holiday traditions, whether it is going to church on Easter morning, using a special knife to carve the Thanksgiving day turkey, or reading the same story on Christmas Eve. Holiday traditions are an important part of childhood and can give all members of the family a common bond, and have the ability to invoke fond memories when you are apart from one another. It is never too late to start holiday traditions.
Selecting Traditions
-
Select holidays that you and your family enjoy celebrating together. For some families, this can be anything from St. Patrick's Day to the Fourth of July. There is no limit to the number of holidays for which you can begin family traditions. Think of something that would be fun or quirky to do each year at this holiday. You can choose something you did when you were a child, something you family has done once or twice, or something you have never done before.

Enforcing a Tradition
-
Talk to your family about starting traditions. Sometimes traditions just start without discussion, but it can be useful to talk about them and make their inclusion in your holiday celebrations routine. Write down details of your holiday traditions if it is something new to you and you think you may forget some important points before another year passes. Remember the following year what your holiday traditions entail and make sure to keep your new tradition.
