    Gathering Supplies

  1. For each mask, you will need one paper or plastic plate that is pre-divided into three sections. You will also need brown, orange and yellow construction paper, scissors, a permanent marker (brown or black), crayons, a hole puncher and elastic cord.
  2. Creating the Face

  3. Have an adult use scissors to cut out the largest section of the plate and throw it away. Place the plate upside down in front of you so that the missing section is at the top. Use a permanent marker to draw a nose, mouth, and whiskers (see the photo above). You may want to color the lion's face with light brown or yellow crayons.
  4. Creating the Mane

  5. Tear one-inch thick strips of construction paper and crinkle them slightly. This will create wavy strips to resemble a lion's mane. Glue the strips all around the sides of the mask. Let the "mane" dry completely before moving it.
  6. Wearing the Mask

  7. Cut a length of elastic cord that is almost long enough to wrap halfway around the child's head. Pay close attention to the length. If your elastic is too loose, the mask may slip off; and if it's too tight, the mask will be uncomfortable. Punch one hole on each side of the mask, and string the elastic cord through the holes. Knot the ends of the cord together. The mask is now ready for wearing!
