    What Is Wood Filler?

  1. Wood filler, also called "wood putty," is used often in woodworking to fill in holes and gauges. It has the consistency of a stiff paste, and it is tinted to match the wood. You can buy wood filler or make some yourself.
  2. Why Make Your Own Wood Filler?

  3. Although you could buy wood filler, it might be difficult to find one that would exactly match the tint of the wood that you are working with for a project. In addition, you may just want to finish the job without having to run out to the store.
  4. How Can You Make Wood Filler?

  5. Take sawdust from the wood that you are using for your project. On a disposable surface, use your hands to mix the sawdust with glue until it has the consistency of putty. Press the mixture into the hole or gauge and let it dry.
