Troubleshooting a Whirlpool Electric Range
-
Whirlpool Range Error Codes - "F1"
-
When your range flashes "F1" followed by another two digits, it means that either your clock/control board or touch pad has failed. Determine which element has the problem by unplugging the oven for 30 seconds and then plugging it back in and watching the control panel for a minute. If the "F1" returns, replace the board. If not, replace the touch pad. On some models, the touch pad and clock must be replaced together.
Whirlpool Range Error Codes - "F2"
-
"F2" errors mean that something is wrong with the keypad. Check that the keypad is firmly connected with the control board, then press "Cancel." If the error returns after 1 minute, you will have to replace the keypad.
Whirlpool Range Error Codes - "F3"
-
"F3" codes mean your oven temperature sensor has failed or shorted out. The only thing you can do is to replace the sensor.
Whirlpool Range Error Codes - "F4"
-
"F4" codes are for those Whirlpool ranges that have meat probes. Check the probe for a pinched wire and look for condensation or foreign matter on the probe receptacle. Replace the probe if you can't determine what is causing the error.
Whirlpool Range Error Codes - "F5"
-
You'll get an "F5" code when you have door or lock problems. If the door is locked and won't open, unplug the range and check the wires and connectors between the control and the door switch for damage. If they check out fine, pull the range out and remove the back panel. Look for the small gear motor that controls the latch and rotate it to unlock the door. If the door latch failed after the oven self-cleaned, the heat might have blown a thermal overload fuse. In the open back panel, look to your 10 o'clock position for a round part about the size of a quarter fastened with two screws. You can find out if this is your problem by unscrewing the fuse and taking the wires out, then joining the two wires together. Plug in the oven and see if the error code disappears and the door lock works again. If it works, that fuse was your problem. Be sure to replace it because it is there for your safety.
