Making Desktop Icons Smaller in Size

    Open the Display Properties Window

  1. Press the "Start" windows button located at the lower left corner of the computer's desktop. Select "Control Panel" and then the "Appearance and Themes" option from the window that opens. Choose the "Display" icon to open the "Display Properties" window.
  2. Resize the Desktop Icons

  3. Select the "Appearance" tab at the top of the window and click on the "Advanced" button located at the bottom. From the "Item" pull-down menu, scroll down and choose "Icon." There will now be options to change icon size by pressing the up or down arrows.
  4. Default Settings

  5. If you want to change the icon size back to the default settings, repeat the steps in Section 1 to get back to the "Display Properties" window. Make sure the "Theme" tab is selected, and choose either "Windows XP" or "Windows Vista," depending on your operating system, from the pull-down menu to reset the default icon size and look.
