    About Retaining Walls

  1. A retaining wall is more than just a great way to create new sight lines and beautify a lawn. In some cases, it is a necessity. In very wet environments or areas were there are frequent thundershowers, a retaining wall can save your soil from eroding away. Building a wall, however, can be quite expensive. Using natural stones is very pricey. Quarries charge homeowners significant rates for something you can find in the woods, but no one wants to collect and drag enough stones from the woods to build an entire retaining wall. That's where concrete limestone walls come into play.
  2. Concrete Limestone Blocks

  3. A concrete limestone retaining wall has many great features. The material is actually formed concrete that is washed to look like real limestone blocks. This makes the blocks much less expensive. You can buy blocks that fit together more easily than cut limestone. They are also balanced, so they make your wall stronger and more stable. In the end, you get the look of a natural stone wall without the price and the heavy labor involved in building one.
  4. Building the Wall

  5. Once your stones are delivered, you can either hire a contractor to build the wall or you can do it yourself. Note that it is a labor intensive chore and the blocks are heavy. Excavate your dirt using a backhoe and then stack your blocks, interlocking them to build the wall. Give yourself a few weeks to complete the project, from the planning stage through completion.
