Removing Ink From a Leather Purse

    The Problem With Ink Stains

  1. Ink stains can ruin a leather purse if you don't know how to get them off. This is especially true when the leather in the purse has been dyed a dark color because the same agent that removes the ink stain can also take out the dye. After getting the ink stain out, you may have to recolor the leather. Fortunately there are easily available color refinishers for leather that you can buy online.
  2. Getting Out the Ink Stain

  3. Before you take the ink stain off the leather purse, protect the unstained areas by taping a paper frame around the stain itself. Then, rub the stain with a moist piece of 320 grit sandpaper. Wipe the stained area with rubbing alcohol, lacquer thinner, or a commercial spot remover that is safe to use on leather. Let the area dry. If the purse is white or natural leather, you may not need to do anything else to it. The stain will be gone. However, if your purse is dyed leather, now you need to recolor the area you just treated to match the rest of the purse.
  4. Recoloring the Purse

  5. Buy a bottle of leather color refinisher that matches your purse. Use a foam brush to apply a very small amount to the area that needs to be restored. Make sure that it goes on very smooth by removing any bubbles. Let this coat dry. It will take about 20 minutes. Then apply two or three more coats.
