Building a Wilderness Home

Finding a Design
-
Finding a design you like is a big part of building a wilderness home. There's many types of designs out there from split level, three bedrooms to single bedrooms and lofts. Choose your design based on the use, and decide how many people are going to use the home and for how long, and whether you plan on using it as your family grows, or whether it's just a place to relax after hunting and snowmobiling. Take some time to pick a design and then start searching for a builder.
Finding the Right Builder
-
Many wilderness home builders can create anything you like, so you can bring your own ideas, plans and dreams to their architects and get great results. However, if you are thinking about your budget, you should consider a pre-fab design. These modular or semi-modular designs are the least expensive way to go. They are partially pre-assembled at a factory, so labor is cheaper. The plans are pre-made so the homes can be built faster and all the materials are cut from bulk wood.

Exploring Pre-made Wilderness Homes
-
There are a few great pre-made wilderness home makers out there today. The best ones can get you into a wilderness home for as little as $50,000. This includes the cost of shipping the home in most cases. There are also companies that will manufacture logs for log homes, and have pre-designed and ready-to-build log home kits. These are sometimes cheaper than building a regular home. The homes and materials can be shipped right to your site with instructions for you or an experienced builder.
