Installing a Dryer Electrical Outlet

  • Read the instructions completely on the dryer outlet you purchased. You will also need to consult with an electrician to make sure you have a proper 220V breaker in your houses circuit breaker panel. If not, get an electrician to install a 220V breaker and install conduit and a three-wire (four wires including the ground) dryer electrical cable to where the dryer outlet will be installed.

  • Lock off the circuit breaker. Pull the three-wire cable through the cut out in your wall near your dryer. Push 6 to 8 inches of the cable through wall receptacle box. Screw the box into the wall hole.

  • Rip 6 to 8 inches of the plastic covering off the cable with a cable ripper to expose the four wires. Use a wire stripper to pull a 1/2 to 1 inch of insulation off three insulated wires. Follow the dryer outlet diagram exactly. Insert and screw each wire into the proper location on the outlet. Screw on the outlet plug cover. Plug in the dryer. Turn on the circuit breaker.
