    Meal Traditions

  1. On Christmas, many Chinese enjoy a large meal with the family; it's served at noon or later. Some eat out at restaurants. The food that is served is often more in line with the Chinese New Year's banquet. They often have roast barbecued pork, glazed Peking duck, chicken, rice and vegetables. The Chinese have a steamed Christmas cake served with fruits.
  2. Santa

  3. Chinese children hang muslin stockings for the Chinese Santa, who is called Dun Che Lao Ren. He is associated with bringing the children gifts of happiness. His name means "Christmas Old Man."
  4. Tree, Decorations, and Traditions

  5. The Chinese decorate their trees with lanterns, flower and red paper chains. The Christmas tree in China is called the tree of light, and signifies a celebration of life. While children are the main focus of the holiday in both America and China, in the latter, the New Year is more important than Christmas, and is one day in a long week of celebrations.
