    The Dryer Won't Run

  1. If your Whirlpool dryer will not run, there may be several reasons why. The first thing that you should do is check to see if you have either blown a fuse if you have a fuse box or check to see if your circuit breaker has been tripped. If this is not the problem, check to see if you can read 240 volts by the wall plug using a voltmeter. You should also check to see if the wires next to the power cord are burned at the point where they connect to your electric dryer.

Check to see if there is a connection through the door lever switch and whether the lever switch clicks and connects when the door is closed? You should also look to see if there is a belt switch by the motor. If so, this could result in the dryer not being able to run if open.
  2. Electric Dryer Does Not Heat

  3. If your Whirlpool electric dryer is having trouble heating, you should check all of the thermostats, the thermal cut-off, all fuses and the electric heating element for continuity and proper connection.
  4. Dryer Gets Too Hot

  5. When you have a problem with your dryer getting too hot, there are many things that could be causing the problem. Check to see if there is lint inside of the vent hose or inside the outlet of the wall exhaust. A blocked vent will definitely cause a dryer to overheat because it does not permit the heat to exit the machine smoothly. Make sure that you are only using firm and rigid metal or bendable metal duct according the manufacturers instructions. Look for kinks within the vent hose. You should also check for any obstacles or obstructions inside the outer damper.

Make it a practice to check the outside vent damper every other month or so. Check to see if you can feel a good flow of air being released out of the exhaust. If not, the blower may be in poor condition inside of the dryer. Some other possible reasons for overheating include, a bad operating thermostat, worn, drum seals or a shorted heater coil.
