  1. Check Your Fluids

    • Check all the your vehicles fluids regularly, including oil, transmission fluid, battery, radiator and cooling system liquids. Low fluid levels can cause a knocking sound in the engine, stalling or poor acceleration, and eventually ruin an engine completely. The fluids in your S-10's engine should be checked every month and changed at least twice a year.

    Check All Wires and Tubes

    • Open the hood and make sure all the wires, spark plugs, tubes, vacuum lines and valves are connected. Get out the manual for your S-10 and look for corrosion, breaks, exposed and loose wires. On the newer models, General Motors used spark plugs and vacuum lines made from inexpressive plastic that can break down easily. The S-10 also is prone to fuel injectors that clog easily, It's best to rule out the basics before having to go the more expensive route, which would be replacing fuel injectors. This will also making communicating with your mechanic much easier. Being able to explain that the spark plug connected to your ignition might be broken sounds much better than "Hey, that blue wire under the yellow wire to the left is broken."

    Fuel Injectors

    • The Chevy S-10 engines are known for having problems with their fuel injectors. If you're troubleshooting, the fuel injectors should be one of the first things looked at with the Chevy S-10 engine. Symptoms of clogged fuel injectors are poor acceleration, difficulties maintaining speed, stalling, lurching and difficulties starting your vehicle, especially if your low on gas. It's best to consult your manual, depending on the year of your Chevy, fuel injector problems could be a simple electrical issue or the fuel injector itself may actually need to be replaced.
