Installing Rear Car Speakers

  1. Removing the Old Speakers

    • The first step when installing rear speakers is to remove the old ones. These are usually mounted in the space behind the seats, just above the trunk, or in the side panels of the doors. Remove the carpet that covers this area, and remove the screws that hold the speaker brackets in place. The speaker assembly should easily come out. Disconnect the wires and set the speakers aside.

    Fitting Your New Speakers

    • Your new speakers should fit right into the custom holes on your vehicle. Some speakers will have a rating like E-Z, which means no additional mounting brackets are needed to fit that speaker into the car it is made for. Others require additional kits. Buy speakers that are fitted just for your vehicle's model and year to make installation simple. Nearly all after-market audio components manufacturers create speakers for each type of vehicle or have ones that will fit yours.

    Installation

    • Eemove the speakers from the box and make sure you have all the hardware the manual lists. Read the wiring diagram to see if your speaker requires some kind of unique wiring setup (most will not). Then connect the red wire to the red wire, and black wire to the black wire. Test the speaker to be sure it is connected correctly. Then install the speaker into the bracket with the mounting screws that come with them. Replace the carpet and enjoy the new sound.
