Installing New Beetle Car Speakers
-
Introduction and Removing the Door Panel
-
To install speakers in a new Beetle, the door panels must be removed to access the speakers. A small common screwdriver and a Phillips screwdriver will be needed. A Beetle door panel is held on with small plastic pins around the circumference of the door. These pins have a small button in the middle of the head. Use the small screwdriver and push in on these little buttons and they should pop out; if they don't then help them by prying them out with the screwdriver. Once the button pops out, pull the whole pin out of the door panel. Use the Phillips to remove the screws in the armrest and the one in the front of the door handle. Use the common screwdriver and insert it in between the door panel and the door frame and pry the snaps attached to the door panel out of the door frame. Pull the door panel back about 6 inches and release the plastic clips that are holding the rods to the door handle behind the door panel. Disconnect all the electrical connectors.
Removing and Replacing Front Speakers
-
Remove the Phillips screws around the speaker. Pull the speaker out and remove the electrical wire ends that are attached to the speaker. Make sure that the replacement speakers are of the same size. The magnet may be larger in the back, but it should not be any deeper so that it does not interfere with the window track.
Attach the wires to the speaker and place it into the door. Line up the mounting holes and insert the screws. Hold the door panel close enough to the door to hook the door latch rods into the door handle and swing the plastic retaining clips around and hook them back on the rods. Install the door panel and insert the pins in the holes around the circumference of the door. Install the screws in the armrest and in the door handle.
Removing and Replacing Rear Speakers
-
The rear speakers can be accessed through the trunk. They are attached to the bottom of the package tray. There are studs that run downward through the speaker with nuts on the ends. Remove the nuts on the studs and lower the speakers and remove the electrical connectors. Replace them in the reverse order.
