Installing a Bathtub Insert

  1. Fitting the Insert

    • The first step is to fit the insert when installing a bathtub liner. First inspect the new bathtub insert to make sure there are no flaws, cracks or problems with the liner itself. Then carefully insert it into the tub for a first dry fit. Make sure the corners sit perfectly in the tub and there are few if any wrinkles in the sides. You will also want to be sure the edges line up properly. Don't try to force the liner into the tub; it should fit absolutely perfectly without a lot of bending, pulling or sags.

    Apply the Adhesive

    • Your insert should either come with adhesive or recommend a proper adhesive. If it doesn't you need to find out the exact material it is made of and get the proper adhesive from the hardware store for that material. Once you have this, remove the liner from the tub and apply the adhesive to the shower drain and tub. Then install the liner until it is flush. You can fill the tub with water to help the liner fit better inside the tub.

    Cleaning and Inspecting

    • The next thing to do is inspect the lining. You want to be sure that everything lines up properly; edges, drain hole and shower holes should match perfectly. There should also be no bubbles in the liner. A few small air pockets may form, but only if these are large should you reinstall. In most cases, removing a tub liner is going to damage it.
