How Does a Professional BMX Rider Spend a Workday?

    • The BMX circuit has a collection of amazing superstars and athletes who dedicate their lives, time and money to biking. These riders have to work hard to become better and keep up with the new tricks and tactics of other riders.

    Tricks and Routines

    • BMX riding professionals do all sorts of tricks, grinds and other things that don't even seem possible to do with a bike. The world of BMX riding is a one-man show. BMX riders largely set their own hours, but it's still tough work. Professional BMX riders go through grueling days just like superstars of any sport.

    Practice Days

    • A day for a BMX rider will usually start off with breakfast. Riders need to eat well and stay healthy. Riders need training and practice in either skate parks or BMX tracks to help hone their craft.

Many riders run a morning session working on the basics, then slowly move into more and more difficult runs. Riders don't just do a few tricks and go up a few ramps and call it quits. They ride and practice for hours.

After a morning session, most bikers do housework and run errands or go to meetings or photo shoots. Bikers have a little more freedom to get things done outside of sports than those in a team sport. However, even after housework is taken care of, most of the bikers usually take another session to go do some extreme biking. After session two, it's back home for the bikers, so they can get up and do it all over again.

    Travel

    • Many BMX bikers have to travel to different parts of the country as well as abroad. The flights or bus rides can become very grueling and tiring for these athletes. Travel is just another small factor these amazing athletes have to contest with on a regular basis. Once the BMX rider makes it to his destination, he has to perform his routine and do public relations activities, including autograph sessions.
