How Do I Change the Belt on My Dyson Vacuum?

  1. Preparation

    • In order to change the belt on your Dyson vacuum cleaner, you'll need to gather the following: a coin and the replacement belt. Before you begin, make sure that your vacuum is unplugged. Remove the wand handle from the vacuum. Sit down. Turn the vacuum upside down and rest the bottom of the Dyson vacuum in your lap with the underside facing up at you and the front of the machine facing toward you.

    Process

    • Take the coin in hand and use it to unscrew the fasteners of the baseplate of the vacuum. You will turn the fasteners counterclockwise to unscrew them. Remove the baseplate. Check the spindle for any debris buildup and remove it before proceeding. Unhook the existing belt and remove it from the machine, discarding it. Take the new belt and loop it around the brush bar, then slowly guide it through the hole. Loop your thumb into the belt and stretch it, twisting it 90 degrees and then looping it onto the spindle. Use the back of the vacuum as leverage to help stretch the belt if you need to. Check to be sure that the belt is not twisted. Also be sure that the end caps are secure on the brush bar.

    Clean Up

    • Line up the tabs on the baseplate and then replace it back on to your Dyson vacuum. Replace the fasteners, tightening them with the coin. Plug in your machine, turn it on and try vacuuming. If you are experiencing any problems, reopen the vaccuum and check to make sure the belt has not slipped off. If it has, repeat the process to secure the belt. If you are experiencing any other problems, check your manual or visit Dyson's website for more information and troubleshooting support.
