- Mirrors are a great way to add light and space to a room. They make a room feel larger, because they act a sort of a "window" on a wall. If the mirror is opposite a light source, the mirror will reflect that light, throwing it back into the room. Placing a mirror opposite a window will reflect what is outside the window, bringing more of the green space inside. Square mirrors are great for decorating because they are extremely versatile. Depending on their size, they can be placed in groups or straight rows, or rotated on the diagonal to form a diamond shape. Square mirrors can be used in almost any room in the house.
- Square mirrors can be used to update a room, making it more modern and sophisticated. Instead of hanging a watercolor above a fireplace or sofa, try hanging three or four square mirrors instead. Arrange them in one horizontal row above a sofa, or in a block pattern above the fireplace. For another modern idea, try leaning several square mirrors against the wall on a shelf. In your bedroom, place black and white photos above your bed, with square mirrors alternating in-between the photos. Don't forget the baby's room. Babies love to look at themselves in mirrors. Try turning them at an angle and hanging them in a low row on the wall, so that you have a row of shiny diamonds. Your baby will love them.
- Update your bathroom by removing the builder's mirror above the sink and hanging an elegantly framed square mirror there instead. If you have blank wall space above the sink in your kitchen, try hanging a square mirror there, if you can stand watching yourself do the dishes. It will open up the room. Mirrors are also beautiful in a dining room. To add a formal feel, hang the mirrors on the wall and add candle sconces on either side of each mirror. This works best if you have one large, square mirror rather than a lot of small ones.
