Making Finger Puppets
-
The Materials
-
Visit a thrift store and art supply store to get the necessary items for making finger puppets. At the thrift store, buy some fun fabrics for making finger puppet clothing, and find an old pair of stocking gloves that fit snugly to your fingers. At the art supply store, buy stick-on eyeballs in various sizes, yarn for hair, paints and very fine paintbrushes and cut-out felt pieces for hair, hats, lips and shoes. If you plan to make princesses or fairies, buy sparkly, tiny jewels or ribbons.
Decide on a Theme
-
While you're at the art supply store, think about the theme of your finger puppets. You have five fingers, so five characters from your child's favorite movie or show would work well. Buy appropriate accessories for each character's outfits. Goldilocks and the Three Bears, for example, or a finger puppet family (Mom, Dad, Kid, Cat, Dog) are good for five fingers.

Making the Puppets
-
Cut all the fingers of the gloves off at the base of the fingers, where they attach to the glove. Then, decorate each finger puppet as the character dictates. Start by gluing on eyes, hair and paint on the face. As those parts dry, assemble tiny outfits by cutting out some of your thrift store material, or piecing together felt hats, coats and accessories. Stitch on arms made out of felt remnants. The clothing can either be glued to the puppet or stitched on by hand. Once all the finger puppets are done and dried, slip them all on your fingers and put on a show!
