    Assessing the Structure

  1. The first thing to do is to assess the roof structure where you want to install the roof patio. Take note of what the roof is made of and how it is supported. A flat concrete or wood roof can easily be resurfaced and tiled. Usually, flat roof surfaces have some kind of shingle applied. This will have to be removed and standard patio tiles laid down. A peaked roof will need a structure built into it. This is a big job and will require a contractor.
  2. Applying the Tile

  3. Tiling a roof patio is the same as tiling any other patio. The tiles are set into place over a wood surface that is weatherproofed with rubber. Additional materials can also be laid down like small stone gravel to assist in drainage. Consider choosing high-quality roofing tiles for your surface. They are one of the best options out there. They are made in variety of styles, and some come rubberized, which makes them weather proof and comfortable to walk on. They're also designed just for this purpose.
