How Does a Recycling Plant Manager Spend a Workday?
-
Watching the Markets
-
A big part of a recycling manager's day involves watching the price of commodities that the plant recycles. This includes paper, copper, aluminum and other metals. Prices for these materials will rise and fall throughout the week. A manager with a good eye and instinct for these price shifts can increase the amount of money the plant makes by holding materials until the price is right.
Keeping Up on New Technology
-
Another part of a manager's day is keeping abreast on new recycling technology. He needs to know what changes are coming down the pipe to keep his plant competitive. The manager at many plants is tasked with making sure that information about new machines and other inventions that can help the plant grow is passed on to the owners.

Other Duties
-
A manager could also have other jobs depending on what the plant does. Some plants also offer a free dropoff area where people can drop off things they don't need. Other people will come along and take them. This is true with many city-run recycling plants. As long as people are residents, they can take the goods. Therefore, a manager could be charged with overseeing this area.
