Making a Cupcake Tree

Deciding What Type of Cupcake Tree To Use
-
The first step to making a cupcake tree is to determine the right size and style of cupcake tree to suit your particular party, wedding or event. For smaller gatherings consider purchasing a decorative wire cupcake tree. These ornamental cupcake trees are typically anywhere from three to five tiers and are ideal for birthdays, bridal showers and baby showers. However, if you need to serve several hundred people you'll definitely want to consider a sturdy, heavy duty corrugated cardboard cupcake tree. This type of cupcake tree is available commercially for both standard sized cupcakes as well as miniature cupcakes and can be easily decorated to accommodate the colors and theme of your event. If you do not want to purchase such a large cupcake tree most bakeries rent them for reasonable rates. Many people also enjoy making their own cupcake trees from basic, everyday household items. Making your own cupcake trees is a fun and affordable way to customize your special occasion.
How to Build a Homemade Cupcake Tree
-
Obtain three attractive glass platters or dishes in varying sizes as well as three small coordinating glass drinking cups or glass teacups. Purchase super glue or glass adhesive that dries clear. To assemble the cupcake tree start by placing the largest platter on a flat surface right side up and applying a thick layer of glue to the rim of the drinking glass. Place it face down directly onto the center of the platter and allow it to dry. Next apply a thick layer of glue to the bottom of the drinking glass and carefully center the medium sized plate over the glass. Push down so that it's laying flat on the glass and allow it to dry. Repeat this process with the smallest drinking glass and plate and set your cupcake tree aside to dry overnight. It is then ready for use.

Cupcake Tree Setup
-
Bake or purchase the cupcakes that you will be serving. If you are using a small wire cupcake holder or a handmade cupcake tree, setup is as easy as simply arranging the cupcakes on the cupcake tree. Be sure to roll up your sleeves to avoid accidentally getting icing on yourself. Larger, heavy duty cupcake trees will take a little longer to set up because they have to be assembled and decorated with decorative papers, doilies or ornamental foil. Follow the manufacturer's setup instructions, then test cupcake stand to ensure that it is stable. Once it is, add any decorative linings then begin carefully adding the cupcakes. Start on the top tier and begin by adding cupcakes one by one. Place them by the center first and work your way outward. As you complete each tier repeat the process until the entire cupcake tree has been filled.
