  1. Position and secure the fence posts. Determine the location for the each post by measuring the length of the panels and marking the ground. Use stakes and string to make sure each marking is lined up straight. To prepare the ground, you can use an mechanical auger or a hand-held post hole digger. Once the holes are dug, place the posts, and level them from corner to corner. Pour quick-dry cement into the hole and pack tightly. Fill the hole with water and let set overnight to dry.
  2. Select a design pattern. When hanging fence panels, you have two basic options for hanging design. If the ground is level, the project is relatively simple, but in the uneven terrains, you can choose to hang your panels in a stepped fashion or straight. If you choose to keep the panels straight at the top, you will either have to cut the panels at the bottom so they are all the same height or hang them at an equal distance above the ground and fill the bottom space with lattice or some other decorative outdoor material. If you are hanging the wood fence panels in a stepped pattern, then you will gain the advantage of the same basic height for the length of your fence, which will give you more privacy.
  3. Cut the panel bottoms to fit them to the ground level. To measure the proper areas to cut, place a panel against the posts, and using a level, get the panel completely straight. One side of the panel will be a distance from the ground. Measure the distance precisely, then mark the opposite end of the fence panel the distance of the measure. Using a straight edge and carpenter pencil, mark a line starting at the previous measure point and leading down to the opposite bottom corner. Cut off the bottom of the panel on the marked line using a hand-held circular saw. The panel should then stand level on the ground at the posts where you previously measured.
  4. Install the wood fence panels. To attach the panels to the posts, use a hand-held battery power screwdriver to secure each side, leaving space so you can attach the next panel. If the panel is too long, cut off any unnecessary length. If it is too short, you can add treated 2-by-4 inch boards to the post side until the wood fence panel has proper proportion to fit.
