How Does a Swimsuit Model Spend a Workday?

A successful swimsuit model will spend part of her workday going to go sees and meeting with their manager. Go sees are opportunities to meet potential clients and audition for modeling jobs. Casting directors, magazine editors, catalog photo editors, art directors and designers can all be part of an active swimsuit model's workday. The model's manager or agency will set the go see appointments, and otherwise arrange the swimsuit model's workday, which may include a management meeting.

Fittings are also scheduled after the model has the job, but before the actual photo shoot. The model may meet with the designer or her seamstress for several fittings before the swimsuit fits perfectly, or she may simply adjust the fit at the shoot, depending on the budget and the designer.

Class and Exercise

In order to maintain a body suitable for modeling, a swimsuit model will spend part of a workday exercising. He may go to the gym for a regular workout, or he may have a trainer come to his home. Neglecting his body is one thing a swimsuit model cannot afford to do. An exercise regime is part of a successful model's workday and part of his lifestyle. Toned abs and a svelte form are part of the expected package for a swimsuit model.

Posing for the photographs requires skills that the model may have naturally, but more often he will need to participate in classes to hone his abilities.

Photo Shoot

Models can easily spend two hours or more in hair and makeup for a photo shoot. A suntan may also be required, so that means a spray tan and several hours for it to set before the photo shoot takes place. A large part of a swimsuit model's workday during a photo shoot will also include waiting for the right light, the photographer, the stylist, the producer or some other factor impacting the shooting schedule.

The model may or may not be in the water during the waiting period, which is an added nuisance as the water may be cold or begin to wrinkle her skin. Frequent shots may also lengthen the time she spends in the water. Posing on a rock beside a beautiful ocean may also be colder or hotter than would appear in the photo, so touching up her makeup and hair as needed will be part of a model's workday. A swimsuit model's workday can be very long and tedious if it includes working on a photo shoot.
