Types of Sleeper Couches
There are a few different types of sleeper sofas on the market today for you to choose from. You may need a certain size or a want it to fit into a special décor. The most common sleeper sofa looks just like a regular sofa with two or three cushions. They may have short legs or none at all. They come in full or queen mattress sizes and various styles and price ranges. Of course there are the beds that hide in the middle of your sectional and the more modern type that have a rollaway back and convert into a single bed. Day beds have also been around for years. They are single beds that are dressed up to be a couch instead of the other way around. If budget is not a concern than you can find sofa beds in styles and shapes to match any décor you can imagine, but they come at a rather high price. On the opposite end you have the foam furniture that is folded in three sections and when unfolded is a bed. These come in various sizes, colors and have a lower price tag.
How Does the Sofa Bed Work
The most common sofa bed is a mattress and spring folded in half and tucked under the cushions and behind the back of the couch. When you take off the cushions there will be a handle that you pull up and out and the bed comes out of the couch. The springs also have legs which fold up in the mechanism that come out automatically when you pull out the bed. Then you unfold in and it is a complete bed. Other convertible type couch beds may just need the cushions removed from the back to be a bed. You just add sheets, blankets and pillows and your guests are off for a good night's sleep. The folded foam furniture is very close to the floor and has no springs or legs. You just unfold and it's like a thick mattress that is on the floor. This type is great for the kids' sleepovers.
What to Consider When Looking for a Sofa Bed
The first thing to think about when looking for a sofa bed is how much the bed is going to be used. If it is a "once in a blue moon" type situation then you would want to make sure the sofa is comfortable. Many times the bed springs don't make a very comfortable base for your cushions.
If you are going to use the bed more than the couch then you would want to make sure the mattress is a good one and you won't be feeling the cross bar in the springs across your back all night. Of course, your budget is another area that has to be considered, but you can find a good quality sofa bed at a reasonable price in many furniture stores. Lastly you might consider space. You can purchase sofa beds from a single size to a queen size. If it's occasional visit by your grandchild, a single may suffice. If you have couples or a lot of company, then you should probably consider something larger.
