One Touch Ultra Setting Instructions
-
Introduction
-
The One Touch Ultra is a special piece of equipment designed as a blood-glucose monitoring system. This device is specifically developed to help those who are suffering from diabetes to monitor their blood glucose levels. The One Touch Ultra allows the user to self-test her blood from the comfort of her own home without having to go to a health clinic to get her testing done.
How It Works
-
One Touch Ultra works by taking a small sample of your blood and mixing it with special chemicals on a test strip. The interaction of the blood with the chemicals on the test strip causes a reaction in the form of an electric current. The more glucose there is in the blood, the stronger the electric current will be. One Touch Ultra measures this current and uses the information to give you a blood glucose number. Someone who has trouble regulating his glucose levels can then use these results to determine whether or not he needs insulin. Before the meter can be used, it must first be set.

Calibration
-
When using the One Touch Ultra system, you must first calibrate the meter by inputting the number code on your test-strip bottle. Each type of test strip reacts differently to the system, so the system must be calibrated to match the strip. This must be done every time a new bottle of strips is used. Once the system is calibrated, turn the meter off.
Using the Strip
-
With the meter off, insert your first test strip into the system. This should automatically turn on the One Touch. When you insert the strip, make sure the three bars are facing towards you. When inserting the strip, you can touch any part of it, as long as you have clean and dry hands. There is no need to bend or cut the strips; this will only disrupt the meter readings. The code on your test-strip bottle should appear once you insert the strip. If the code does not match, use the arrows to change the number until the code does match. Your setting should now be complete.
Conclusion
-
Your One Touch Ultra setting should now be set, and you should be able to continue your blood-glucose reading. For additional information on how to test your blood glucose using the One Touch Ultra, follow the link in Resources.
