  1. A pregnancy scrapbook is a great way to preserve memories during the pregnancy. More crafty moms create the entire scrapbook from scratch, but there are numerous pre-formed scrapbooks and scrapbook kits available to help you. However, simply filling in the blanks is not enough to properly preserve the memories in a scrapbook. To do so, the scrapbook must be a project that you work on continuously throughout the pregnancy.
  2. Prepare for the Memories

  3. A mother-to-be never knows the instant that she is pregnant. She usually finds out about the pregnancy weeks and even months after conception. However, this doesn't affect the scrapbook. Take a day or a little time each day to catch up after receiving a positive test. Do so until you are caught with the current trimester that you are in.

If making your book from scratch, filling in the scrapbook in the beginning sets the tone for the rest of the book. Choose a theme that will be easy to stick even on days when you are too sick or tired to make a grandiose entry. If you have time, plot out the scrapbook and complete some of the more difficult details while you have the time and energy. A pregnancy scrapbook only works if you make entries continuously throughout the pregnancy. Take the time now to ensure that you can do so by taking care of details like creative framing, preparing slots for photos and pockets for keepsakes.
  4. Preserve the Milestones

  5. Every time you experience a milestone, record it immediately. These milestones include all pregnancy "firsts": the first kick, first ultrasound, first cravings, and more. If you do not have time to create a page or entry for the milestone, write it down. Create a pocket within the scrapbook for these notes or use the notes in the back of a prepared pregnancy scrapbook.
  6. Immediacy is Key

  7. Immediate recording is essential for preserving memories. The hustle and bustle of preparing for the new baby can cause you to forget details, feelings and thoughts experienced during these firsts. Also, many pregnant women claim to experience "pregnancy brain," or temporary lapses in memory. Utilizing the pregnancy scrapbook to record milestones as they happen will preserve those memories.

Furthermore, the scrapbook can only preserve the memories that are written inside it, so don't leave anything out. Make a page for everything that you think is a memory worth preserving. Prepared scrapbooks provide prompts to highlight the memories in need of recording. They also provide space for additional entries. But, no matter what type of scrapbook used, record the memories that you would like to share with you baby and family long after the pregnancy is over.
