How Does a Euchre Tournament Work?
-
Partnership Euchre Tournament
-
Euchre is a card game played by two teams of two players each, much like bridge. The tournament is played for a set number of hours. Euchre is won by bidding on the number of tricks the team is going to win. If the team wins the bid, it scores one point. If it wins all the tricks in the hand, it scores two points. If the team that called the bid, does not win three tricks in a hand, then the other team gets two points. The team with the highest number of points at the end of the tournament is the winner. Players can either enter the tournament as teams or teams can be chosen by lottery. The second way evens the playing field more.
Round Robin Euchre Tournaments
-
Round robin euchre tournaments are basically played the same way, but the teams do not always play against the same opponents. They rotate around after each hand and the team or teams with the lowest number of points are eliminated after a set period of time. Or they are eliminated after a set number of games. The tournament organizers will set the time or number of games as well as the number of teams to be eliminated each time based on the number of entries. When there are just four teams left, the third and fourth teams play off for third place and the number one and two teams play for first and second place.

Single Player Euchre Tournaments
-
In a single player euchre tournament, the players go head to head with one another. The rules are different for two-handed euchre. First of all there are 12 tricks to a hand. In order to win the hand, you have to win seven out of the 12. Every time you win a trick you get one point. But if you are the player who called trump and you do not get the seven tricks, your opponent gets all 12 points. The tournament can either be played round robin style, have a time limit or a limit on the number of games played. The player with the highest total at the end of the tournament is the winner. Euchre is a very flexible game, because a tournament can be set up in a variety of ways. A tournament can last just a few hours or can go on for days. The length is usually determined by the number of players and whether it is a round robin or straight point total set up.
