Speaker wire is installed inside of the wall, the attic or basement area and then connected to the speakers by running the wires inside and along the wall, ceiling or floor. However, many people run the wires inside of the wall to accomplish the clean and professional theater or music recreation room desired.

Speaker wire is used to make the electrical connection between audio amplifiers and loudspeakers. Speaker wire is comprised of two electrical conductors. Each wire is insulated by plastic. The wires are electrically identical; however, they are different in other ways. One wire may be ribbed or grooved on the insulation, and one may have a thread in one of the wires or be different in color. This helps to identify the correct polarity of the wires. Some previous wire designs also featured an extra pair of wires for electrical, electromagnet power within the loudspeaker. This design type is still being produced in France. However; today, all speaker manufacturers use permanent magnets to manufacture their speaker wires.
  4. Do Speaker Wires Affect the Performance of Loud Speakers?

There is much debate about how speaker wire affects the signal it carries. Speaker wire has three parameters that determine its performance. The parameters include capacitance, inductance and resistance. The shorter the speaker wire, the more perfect the wire is because it has very little or no capacitance, inductance or resistance. Resistance decreases when the length is decreased in all conductors. This does not apply to superconductors, however. Resistance is the property that has the largest effect on the performance of speaker wire. The inductive (stimulation of the electrical current) and the capacitive uniqueness, which is the amount of electrical power that speaker wires possess, are slightly smaller in comparison to the loudspeaker. Speaker wire capacitance and inductance, typically, have no effect on audio quality. However, when using long speaker wire with speakers that are capable of consuming large amounts of power, a small effect can be heard.
  6. Tools Needed to Install In-Wall Speaker Wire

  7. There are several tools needed to install speaker wire inside of a wall. Generally, the tools needed include a drill, bits, a utility knife, spackle, touch-up paint, a stud sensor, a long thin rod (or a wire hanger will do), wire snake and electrical tape. The wire snake is optional, but using it can cause the installation to be a much easier process. All of these tools are essential to completing an in-wall speaker wire job with proficiency.
