In the early days a spy, will spend a lot of her time in training. She will be trained in two areas. First, she will learn military training. This is important and will also include learning about other countries and their governments. Second, the spy will learn how to keep her cover. This includes not spending all her money on items that will draw attention to herself. She will learn about her cover story and what must be done to keep that cover from being revealed. Training is very intense, and you cannot begin working as a spy without it.
Working Your Cover

More time is spent by a spy working on his cover than actually doing the spying. The spy must spend time during the day engaging in activities that support his cover. That means if a spy is a businessman, he must attend meetings, dress in suits and schedule business lunches. These activities will hide the spy's real job. It will keep anyone from becoming suspicious about his life.

Making Relationships with Foreigners

The spy must then begin seeking foreigners to recruit for information. This can be done at night by attending parties and making the right contacts. The spy will begin initiating and then growing a relationship with the foreigner. Once the spy feels the foreigner trusts her, the spy will ask the foreigner to get information. The foreigner is paid for any information that he obtains. This information must be found to be legitimate.
Sitting in Cars

Spies will spend a good amount of time making observations. This is done by sitting in a car for long periods of time. Spies may use some basic gadgets such as binoculars or cameras to gather the information they need. Spies also sit in cars to seek a pattern in a target's day or to catch their target doing something illegal. This information is gathered, documented and used later as needed.
Writing Up Reports

The less glamorous part of a spy's job is writing up reports. It is imperative that the spy keep accurate records of all that he is observing as well as any information that he has gathered from the foreigner. This is recorded and then submitted in a report as requested by the employer of the spy.
