Job Description

A body-parts model specializes in modeling only a certain part of the anatomy--such as the hands, feet and legs--for various advertisements or editorial photographs in magazines. The model must keep these particular body parts well taken care of and always camera-ready. The skin must be free of any blemishes, bruises or discolorations. Taking care of the hands, feet, neck, abdomen, or legs is of utmost importance to a body-parts model, because these attrributes are basically the model's livelihood, providing her with job opportunities and a paycheck. A body-parts model usually showcases products like hand creams, jewelry, pantyhose and shoes.
Typical Workday
-
A body-parts model spends a typical workday at a photo, commercial or video shoot. A workday at a photo shoot starts very early in the morning, when the model arrives to get ready. The body parts that will be spotlighted in the particular shoot are prepped with makeup and fitted with shoes, jewelry or whatever product is to be advertised. A hand and foot model will often be given a manicure and pedicure to make these areas appear more beautiful and polished. If the model is being used for her lips or eyes, a significant amount of makeup will often be applied to achieve the look the client desires. Depending on how many wardrobe changes are scheduled, the photo shoot may take up to 8 hours, or even longer. During the shoot, the model calls on her skill to present both the body part and the product in the best light. For example, a neck model will be hired to model necklaces, a foot model may showcase shoes and a hand model may show bracelets, rings and gloves. She will position her body in a particular way that is photogenic and pleasing to look at, while drawing attention to the product being modeled.

Other Duties

A body-parts model may also participate in showcases on TV channels such as the Home Shopping Network. The model is required to showcase items like jewelry, shoes, gloves, hats and other accessories. During video shoots for TV shows or commercials, the model is required to place her arms or legs in flattering positions that best demonstrate the look and utility of the company's product. Much like photo shoots, video shoots may also take all day, requiring plenty of preparation in the makeup chair. Most of the time, the body-parts model will not be required to show her face or full body.
