How Does an Astrologist Spend a Workday?
-
Job Description
-
An astrologist studies the movement of the planets, the sun, the moon and certain constellations in relation to understanding and predicting human personality traits and various human affairs. In ancient times, astrologists and astronomers were practically indistinguishable as they both studied the very few planets and stars that had been discovered at the time.
In the modern era, astrologists and astronomers are completely different professions, studying two very different sciences. An astrologist studies the position of the celestial bodies in the solar system to predict and explain human behavior. An astronomer studies various phenomena in the universe such as stars, black holes, meteors, comets, moons and planets. Astrology is generally considered a superstition or pseudoscience by the scientific community.
Typical Workday
-
An astrologist does not work the typical eight hours in an office. Most astrologists work from a home office. An astrologist's hours will vary from day to day, with much of the day spent studying astronomical charts, writing horoscopes and giving astrological readings. The astrologist consults and studies various astronomical charts and notes the position of the planets in the solar system and various constellations that influence various matters on Earth. The astrologist will record the date when any changes occur in these positions. She tracks the movement of all the planets through the 12 constellations that make up the zodiac. She also keeps a record of the positions that the planets take during a particular month. These recordings and observations allow the astrologist to come up with horoscopes--daily predictions of the future for every sign of the zodiac. The astrologist writes down a horoscope for every sign, and the horoscopes are published in various magazines and newspapers.

Other Duties
-
An astrologist may also spend the workday giving astrology readings. These are personalized predictions based on individual zodiac signs that are given to people who call, email or write to an astrologist. In addition, many astrologists also share their knowledge and expertise by writing books about astrology and almanacs with detailed horoscopes for every sign for every day of the year. Writing a book or almanac is a serious undertaking that may take months or even years for an astrologist to create.
