    Lip Balms

  1. Chapstick is a popular type of lip balm used to protect and treat lips. Lip balms are made to prevent damages to lips, as well as condition and moisturize. Lips can become chafed, chapped or even sunburned and using a lip balm can soothe and protect. Lip balms come in all types, from lip butters to medicated salves and each heal and soothe lips differently.
  2. Ingredients

  3. The ingredients in lip balms and lip butters are what treat and care for your lips. Most balms aim to protect lips from sun damage so many products use the ingredient octinoxate, a sunscreen that absorbs UV rays. Avobenzone and padimate are other types of sunscreens found in lip balms. Petrolatum, castor seed oil, shea butter and jojoba seed oil can all be found in many types of lip balms designed to moisturize and soften lips. Carnauba wax is found in most lip balms as well and softens and polishes lips.
  4. Usage

  5. Using lip balms every day will protect as well as treat your lips. Daily use protects lips from sun damage and the drying effects of cold and wind. Using a lip balm also softens, repairs and moisturizes lips, keeping them smooth and healthy. Lip balms can even be used on your cuticles for a quick moisturizing treatment.
