- Hair curlers come in many types and sizes, and are used to curl and add volume to hair. There is a broad range of hair curlers available in most beauty supply stores. Popular types of hair curlers include velcro rollers, hot rollers and sponge rollers.
- A velcro roller is rolled from the tip of the hair to the root and secured with a bobby pin. The hair sticks to the velcro and the pin keeps the roller in place. Hot rollers come in a base that uses electricity to heat the rollers. The rollers sit in the base until heated and then are removed and rolled into the hair, tip to root, and secured with a pin. Sponge rollers are similar to these types except that no pin is needed. A sponge roller comes with a built in plastic clip to secure your hair.
- Keeping the results of hair curlers takes a few tricks of the trade. For velcro rollers, it is best to use on towel-dried hair. While the roller is in place, spray with hairspray and use a blow dryer to dry and curl the hair. Sponge rollers can be used on damp hair and even slept on during the night to achieve maximum curls. Curling irons can also come in handy for touch-ups and to create curls where a hair curler may have not set the hair properly.
