    • Candida albicans is a fungus that is normally present in the human body. It is found predominately on the skin and in the mucous membranes. Presence of the fungus is not a problem unless it is allowed to multiply to abnormal amounts. When there is an overgrowth of candida in the body, a person can develop thrush, a genital yeast infection or a skin rash. In rare cases, a candida infection can affect the blood stream and vital organs. People who are taking antibiotics or who have low immune systems are more prone to candida infections.

    • A candida cleanse is a treatment used in alternative medicine to rid the body of excess candida. Unlike conventional medicine which uses anti-fungal drugs, a candida cleanse uses herbs and probiotics to cure the candida infection.

      2. CLEANSE: Fiber supplements are taken to cleanse the colon and promote better digestive health. Psyllium is a popular ingredient in colon cleansing products. Colon cleansing fibers are taken daily for one week to three months.

      3. ANTI-FUNGAL: After the colon cleanse, natural anti-fungal herbs are taken to kill off excess candida albicans. Oregano oil is a popular herbal anti-fungal agent. Herbal anti-fungals are usually taken for two weeks.

      4. PROBIOTICS: After the herbal anti-fungals are taken, probiotics are taken to increase the good bacteria in the body. Good bacteria helps to prevent candida from growing out of control. Probiotics are found in yogurt and in supplement form. Probiotic supplements can be purchased from health food stores and some drug stores. Probiotics are usually taken for two weeks.
