- The basic job duties of any forestry logger revolve around the cutting and chopping down of trees. The majority of a forestry logger's day is spent using various tools--like axes, saws and chippers--to cut, saw and dismember trees and various lumber parts derived from tree wood.
- Most forestry loggers work in teams. Depending on the size of a particular job, a forestry logger may work in teams of just a few other loggers or work in larger teams consisting of numerous loggers, each of whom performs a specific task, from chopping to cutting, sawing, stacking or loading various wood or lumber pieces.
- There are numerous pieces of equipment that a forestry logger will operate on any given work day, ranging from basic hand-powered saws to large, manually operated hack saws and jigsaws. Motorized wood chippers and pruners are also pieces of equipment that a forestry logger will operate on a daily basis as part of their job duties.
- The job of a forestry logger is filled with danger and peril, from falling trees and heavy branches to injuries sustained from the motorized cutting tools and saws employed by forestry loggers. A forestry logger spends every minute of every working hour striving to work as safely as possible. This means being sure to always wear a hard hat, thick, protective work gloves, ear/hearing protection and work glasses or goggles.
