How Does an Employment Agent Spend a Work Day?
-
-
An employment agent spends her day helping people find work. She may work for the county or state unemployment office, or she may have her own business. Often, independent employment offices may be hired by governmental agencies.
-
The employment agent finds companies that agree to use the agency's services to help people find work. If a company has a job opening, it will notify the employment agent, who will then add it to her list of available positions.
-
-
Throughout the day, the employment agent meets with people who are looking for jobs. These people are often on unemployment, but many who were denied unemployment may use her services, too. During the meeting, she will interview the job seeker to find out what kind of job he could be hired for. She will have the job seeker fill out an application, and much like a job interview, will ask the job seeker about his qualifications in different fields, his education and what other experiences the job seeker has.
-
The employment agent will then look through the database to see if there are any job matches for the job seeker. Once he finds a job match, he will print out the job information and give it to the job seeker. He may even help the job seeker set up an interview, counsel him on what to wear to an interview, counsel him on questions he should ask at the job interview and tell him how he is expected to behave for that particular job interview. He will also tell the job seeker what is expected of him in that particular job, if the prospective employer provided that information to the employment agent.
-
If a job comes in, and one of her clients has the qualifications needed for that particular job, the employment agent will call the client to advise him of a job opening, and will schedule an appointment with him to come in and review the job.
-
The employment agent will document the meetings and phone calls, then notify the proper authorities, if she is working for the state unemployment agency. She will also document meetings and phone calls and put them in her client's personnel file.
