    Zip Files

  1. WinZip is a popular archival tool, and is widely used mainly for sending and receiving files over the Internet. WinZip compresses and archives multiple files in one package, called zip files. This process makes it incredibly easy to organize files into one place for the purpose of uploading them onto the Internet, emailing them or simply transporting them from one computer to another.
  2. Compressing

  3. Compressing multiple files into one using WinZIP is an easy process. Once the program is installed on your computer, you need only to highlight all files you want to archive, or "zip up," right click on one of them and select "Archive" from the menu. All the files will then be placed into one easy-to-manage zip file.

To compress a person's files, WinZIP uses an algorithm, which is a set of instructions it knows how to follow. It then examines your files and "abbreviates" the data, which enables your output file to be of a smaller size than that of the original files.
  4. Uncompressing

  5. To uncompress files, or "unzip" them, a person simply has to select the .zip file they are working with and right click on it. Then they must select "Extract" from the menu that pops up. They will be prompted as to which directory they want the files extracted, and then a few moments after that the process will be completed. The original files will then be available, completely unaltered and in their original state.
