How Does Yahoo! Web Search Work?

    • Yahoo! Web Search is an open search platform that lets 3rd parties build and present search results by allowing the content to be integrated into applications.

    • To do this, a person needs to get an Application ID to access Yahoo!'s services so that the system can identify the person's applications. Yahoo! says that this system works much like a browser's user-agent string.

    • The user then downloads a kit that helps the user integrate the program using different programing languages such as Flash, JavaScript, PHP,
      Java, Python and Perl.

    • The program works by using HTTP requests, which are created by using a ervice entrypoint URL. It then adds query arguments to specify the search results queried for. The end result is XML search results that can be manipulated by the provided SDK APIs or the user for better results.
