How Does Having a Mudroom Help Organize a House?
Shoes
-
A mudroom helps organize a house by setting up a place to keep a family's shoes. This not only helps each household member locate shoes easily, but it also keeps the rest of the houses floors clean and in good order.
Coats
-
The mudroom is a great place to keep all of your coats organized. No more draping coats over your chairs or having to carry them to your bedroom. It is also great for organizing your guests' coats.
Sporting Equipment
-
Mudrooms are excellent for organizing sporting equipment. Anytime one of the kids has a soccer game, they can go right in the mudroom to put on their cleats, shin guards and grab their soccer ball. Adults can keep their bike helmets in the mudroom so they always know where they are. This keeps the rest of the house clear of any sports stuff that may take up room.
Backpacks
-
If you have a few children in the house, a mudroom can help keep their school supplies organized. You can designate a few hooks on the wall to hang the backpacks on and set out a few storage bins for extra paper, pencils and notebooks. The children will then be able to restock their book bag without having to bother the parents as to where the supplies are.
Laundry
-
Some mudrooms are big enough to hold the washer and dryer. Adding some shelves above the washer and dryer will help keep the rest of the house organized. Laundry can be done right in the mudroom, and all of the supplies for the laundry can be kept on the shelves above it. Any muddy items from outside can quickly be thrown in the wash so that they never have to get the rest of the house dirty.
Pet Supplies
-
A mudroom is a great place to organize and store pet supplies. Leashes can hang from one of the hooks set up for backpacks or coats. Plastic storage bins can be used to store cat or dog food, treats and even litter. If the mudroom is big enough, you can even place the cat's litter box there.
