There are many consumers today who are converting wood burning fireplaces to gas fireplaces because gas fireplaces are convenient and affordable. Instead of going through the practice of burning wood, buying wood and cleaning out ashes, the only thing that needs to be done with a gas fireplace is to press a button to get the warmth desired instantly. Natural gas fireplaces have a natural real affect to them. Natural gas fireplaces provide the consumer with the feeling of having a wood burning fireplace. In addition, gas fireplaces use natural gas. Therefore, consumers do not have to lose sleep about pollution and/or other environmental troubles. Today, natural gas fireplaces are installed in new homes throughout many parts of the house. Some of the rooms where gas fireplaces are installed include bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms and in other parts of the home.

Natural gas fireplaces do not work by electricity. This is a good thing in case of a power outage. Gas fireplaces work from standing pilot light similar to stoves and inserts. The pilot lights stay on 24/7 for the most part. Fireplaces are, generally, mill volt. Many updated versions of gas fireplaces burn with an exceptional thermal effectiveness and supply excellent warmth. However, heat effectiveness is reliant upon the BTU and other aspects. There are consumers who use gas fireplaces as their principal heating source; however, gas fireplace companies suggest that owners should make sure that these gas fireplaces have a thermostat connected to them.

Lighting the pilot light on a gas fireplace is as easy as lighting a pilot light on a stove. First, open the access area. Look for instructions on how to light the pilot light. Second, locate the gas shutoff area and make sure it is in the "on" position. The handle should be parallel to the pipe. Make sure the main burner switch is in the "off" position. Next, check to see if the pilot knob is lined up with the indicator line and in the "off" position. Push the knob in lightly and turn it so that the pilot is lined up with the indicator line. Push and hold in the pilot knob with your right thumb and continuously clicking the red piezo igniter button. Once the pilot light is lit, keep holding the pilot button for about a minute. Release your thumb off the knob. While the pilot light is burning, turn the pilot knob to the "on" position and then turn on the main burner switch.
