Viagra's Effects on Women
  1. What are the Effects of Viagra on Women?

    • Viagra, a common erectile-dysfunction drug, is wildly popular amongst men who are suffering from sexual dysfunction. The drug also shows some promise for women, although it is not nearly as effective. The major benefit of Viagra, when taken by a woman, is its ability to help her sex organs function properly. This is especially true of women who have lost their sex drive due to antidepressant medications. Unfortunately, however, Viagra isn't always helpful for women with a low sex drive.

How Does Viagra Help a Woman's Sexual Function?

    • Viagra helps a woman's sexual function in much the same way that it helps a man's. For a woman to become fully sexually aroused she needs a lot of blood flow to her vaginal area. In some women, especially those who are taking certain antidepressants or who suffer from certain physical problems, the body's natural ability to create this blood flow is impaired. Viagra helps to restore this function and to allow a woman to become aroused when she feels the desire to have sex.

Why Does Viagra Help Women Less Than Men?

    • The reason that Viagra helps women's sexual dysfunction less effectively than it does men's seems to stem from the fact that women will not necessarily desire sex even if they can become aroused. Men, on the other hand, will desire sex as long as they are able to maintain an erection. Because of this, women who have always had a low sex drive or who are having problems with desire that aren't physical in nature, won't be helped by taking Viagra.
