- A hypnotherapist uses his skill and education to put people in a trance. A hypnotic trance can be used for many things such as relaxation, to help with anxiety and to remember certain events in the past. Hypnotherapists have to have certain degrees and educational backgrounds to practice hypnotherapy in a professional capacity.
- Although a hypnotherapist has paperwork and research to perform, a hypnotherapist's normal day is spent seeing clients. They will spend time with new clients by getting background information such as a medical history and find out what the client is seeking in his visits. With a new client, they will give them background on how hypnosis works and what to expect on future visits. Once a client is ready to proceed with the hypnosis, the hypnotherapist will have him get into a relaxed position such as sitting with the arms and legs comfortable. She will then ask him to either close his eyes or focus on a certain focal point in the room. This procedure depends on the individual hypnotherapist and how she likes to perform their induction. Once the client is relaxed, the hypnotherapist will proceed with the induction. An induction is what gets the customer in the relaxed state of trance. This is through various tested techniques such as visualization and voice inflection. Once the induction has been successful, the hypnotherapist will then focus on whatever issue the client needs addressed. If a client is there for problems with confidence, the hypnotherapist will plant suggestions into the client's mind. This is done while the brain is more susceptible to being told what to do. The trance or dream-like state allows the hypnotherapist to give these suggestions that are more easily followed. The mind believes that this is what it needs to do. This is how hypnotherapy is helpful with a variety of problems a customer might have. Once the session is over, the hypnotherapist will then awaken the client by using a countdown technique that allows him to wake up peacefully and full of energy.
- A hypnotherapist typically charges up to $200 per session and these sessions usually last about half an hour to an hour. A good portion of hypnotherapists owns their own business or partner with other hypnotherapists or psychologists in the same building.
