How Does an Air Miles Credit Card Work?
-
The concept
-
Every dollar we charge on a credit card goes onto our credit account, and when we have a frequent flier membership, every air mile we travel with that airline goes onto an account that eventually builds up to us getting free airline tickets.
The merger
-
Basically, take the two concepts and put them together: for every dollar that we pay to the credit card companies, we get a mile on our frequent flier account. This is a bit different than the common perception of every dollar spent becomes a mile; here, you actually have to make a payment to get your reward.

Other facts
-
Most air miles credit cards will give you a significant amount of miles for joining - usually somewhere between 20-25,000 miles, which is just about enough for a free domestic ticket. Be warned: these cards tend to carry a higher interest rate than other standard cards (prime + 9.99% isn't uncommon.)
